READING OF THE DAY

A reading from the Book of the prophet Isaiah
Is 26:1-6

On that day they will sing this song in the land of Judah:

“A strong city have we;
he sets up walls and ramparts to protect us.
Open up the gates
to let in a nation that is just,
one that keeps faith.
A nation of firm purpose you keep in peace;
in peace, for its trust in you.”

Trust in the LORD forever!
For the LORD is an eternal Rock.
He humbles those in high places,
and the lofty city he brings down;
He tumbles it to the ground,
levels it with the dust.
It is trampled underfoot by the needy,
by the footsteps of the poor.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 7:21, 24-27

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’
will enter the Kingdom of heaven,
but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.

“Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them
will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
But it did not collapse; it had been set solidly on rock.
And everyone who listens to these words of mine
but does not act on them
will be like a fool who built his house on sand.
The rain fell, the floods came,
and the winds blew and buffeted the house.
And it collapsed and was completely ruined.”

Jesus, I trust in You!
Jesus, I trust in You!

Wednesday of the First Week of Advent

Feast of Saint Andrew, Apostle

(Matthew 4:18-22)

GOD’S WORD FOR US

Today the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Andrew, the apostle. Today’s Word of God tells of Jesus calling His disciples to follow Him.

    When God has chosen and touched someone’s heart and soul, with just one call from Him, that person should be ready to give up everything and follow Him. God shows everyone His strength and power, especially when God has chosen that person to live in His embrace, to follow Him, and to fulfill a mission or a certain responsibility in His work. It is happiness and love that only God gives.

    Through the Gospel, we learn of the four apostles chosen by God who dared to give up everything in this world and follow the Most Holy Master Jesus, showing the strength and power of God.  They were inspired by God, given faith by God, and ready to give up fishing and their way of life and follow Him. Rather than netting fish, their work was to cooperate with God to gather and save souls. Their work was important and meaningful and reflected God’s power in following Jesus Christ.

     Today, God wants to call humanity: To put first and foremost the most important work, which is to cooperate with God to save souls. This is the most precious asset that God gives to all who dare to follow the Most Holy Master Jesus. This is also the important and main work of the Son of God who came to earth as a Man to help free human souls from Satan’s captivity. Therefore, when following Jesus, the disciples must also follow the example of the Most Holy Master; they must carry the cross to Calvary and suffer and die with Him.

     Today, God wants to invite everyone to:

– Be aware of your status when you are chosen by God and called to work in His Divine Plan, and fulfill your God-given duty, which is to save souls.

– Be aware of and do well the tasks that God has given to each person, that is, to become God’s loyal, faithful and wise stewards.

     The Word of God today calls on His disciples: Be vigilant in every word and deed. Walk in God’s saving Divine Plan, and always put God’s work above all else, that is, to save souls from the captivity of Satan.

Thanks Be to God. Amen.
