Tuesday of The Tenth Week In Ordinary Time

(Mt 5:13-16)

A reading from the First Book of Kings
1 Kgs 17:7-16

The brook near where Elijah was hiding ran dry,
because no rain had fallen in the land.
So the LORD said to Elijah:
“Move on to Zarephath of Sidon and stay there.
I have designated a widow there to provide for you.”
He left and went to Zarephath.
As he arrived at the entrance of the city,
a widow was gathering sticks there; he called out to her,
“Please bring me a small cupful of water to drink.”
She left to get it, and he called out after her,
“Please bring along a bit of bread.”
She answered, “As the LORD, your God, lives,
I have nothing baked;
there is only a handful of flour in my jar
and a little oil in my jug.
Just now I was collecting a couple of sticks,
to go in and prepare something for myself and my son;
when we have eaten it, we shall die.”
Elijah said to her, “Do not be afraid.
Go and do as you propose.
But first make me a little cake and bring it to me.
Then you can prepare something for yourself and your son.
For the LORD, the God of Israel, says,
‘The jar of flour shall not go empty,
nor the jug of oil run dry,
until the day when the LORD sends rain upon the earth.’”
She left and did as Elijah had said.
She was able to eat for a year, and Elijah and her son as well;
the jar of flour did not go empty,
nor the jug of oil run dry,
as the LORD had foretold through Elijah.

From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples:
“You are the salt of the earth.
But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father.”

Tuesday of The Tenth Week In Ordinary Time

(Mt 5:13-16)

Dear People of God,

Today’s Word of God, Jesus reminds His disciples: “You are the salt of the world and the light of the world.”

What is salt for life?

Jesus is both God and true man. He took on the human condition to be with and accompany people, to support and heal diseases in the soul as well as in the body. He prepares for God’s saving work by choosing and inviting the apostles to continue on the path of his mission, to bring God’s love to the world, to warm the hearts of mankind, being cooled down by Satan, away from love for God.

Today, God invites His disciples, pastors and Christians to continue Christ’s work of bringing God’s love to humanity, that is the call to be salt for life.

What is light for the world?

The Lord invites His disciples to be the light of the world just as Jesus was the light that came into the world to shine and to give. Now that Jesus Christ has returned to God the Father, he continues to choose to call his disciples and the disciples who dared to give up everything to follow the path of truth and light of Jesus Christ. When we follow the path of Jesus, the light will always shine and shine into the darkness. That light is all the good works that disciples of Jesus Christ must have in their hearts, and must shine down upon other souls; so that through the very good lives of the disciples, as well as of all Christians called by God, the light of Christ himself may shine to all mankind. Therefore, all good works that come from God must be lit, must be brought to light; so that through that light, many other souls can benefit from coming to God.

In this age, the sign of “God’s Light” is lit and made known to all nations, which is the work of the Father’s House. That is also the reason why God always calls Chu Thien Thuong, the fathers and the people in the “Army of Light” to always be salt for the world and the light to shine for the world. Whoever believes will be saved, and God will come to save that soul from Satan’s siege, so that those souls may fully belong to God the Father.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
