Gn 49:2, 8-10
Jacob called his sons and said to them:
“Assemble and listen, sons of Jacob,
listen to Israel, your father.
“You, Judah, shall your brothers praise
–your hand on the neck of your enemies;
the sons of your father shall bow down to you.
Judah, like a lion’s whelp,
you have grown up on prey, my son.
He crouches like a lion recumbent,
the king of beasts–who would dare rouse him?
The scepter shall never depart from Judah,
or the mace from between his legs,
While tribute is brought to him,
and he receives the people’s homage.”

Mt 1:1-17
The book of the genealogy of Jesus Christ,
the son of David, the son of Abraham.
Abraham became the father of Isaac,
Isaac the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.
Judah became the father of Perez and Zerah,
whose mother was Tamar.
Perez became the father of Hezron,
Hezron the father of Ram,
Ram the father of Amminadab.
Amminadab became the father of Nahshon,
Nahshon the father of Salmon,
Salmon the father of Boaz,
whose mother was Rahab.
Boaz became the father of Obed,
whose mother was Ruth.
Obed became the father of Jesse,
Jesse the father of David the king.
David became the father of Solomon,
whose mother had been the wife of Uriah.
Solomon became the father of Rehoboam,
Rehoboam the father of Abijah,
Abijah the father of Asaph.
Asaph became the father of Jehoshaphat,
Jehoshaphat the father of Joram,
Joram the father of Uzziah.
Uzziah became the father of Jotham,
Jotham the father of Ahaz,
Ahaz the father of Hezekiah.
Hezekiah became the father of Manasseh,
Manasseh the father of Amos,
Amos the father of Josiah.
Josiah became the father of Jechoniah and his brothers
at the time of the Babylonian exile.
After the Babylonian exile,
Jechoniah became the father of Shealtiel,
Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel,
Zerubbabel the father of Abiud.
Abiud became the father of Eliakim,
Eliakim the father of Azor,
Azor the father of Zadok.
Zadok became the father of Achim,
Achim the father of Eliud,
Eliud the father of Eleazar.
Eleazar became the father of Matthan,
Matthan the father of Jacob,
Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary.
Of her was born Jesus who is called the Christ.
Thus the total number of generations
from Abraham to David
is fourteen generations;
from David to the Babylonian exile, fourteen generations;
from the Babylonian exile to the Christ,
fourteen generations.
Saturday of the Third Week of Advent – (Mt 1:1-17) – God’s Word for Us
Dear people of God,
The Word of God today records the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who came down to earth in order to show all mankind that: When every human being is born, there is always a lineage originating from God, a line of human ancestors that continues to this day.
God wants to let all mankind know that: The Son of God was born in the human world for the sake of man’s happiness. To experience the face of God, to share in His divine life, to share in the blessedness of the birth of the supreme God as a human being, these are the ways that God bestows happiness upon all mankind.
Today, God the Father wants humanity to accept the love of God, who with His humble birth as a human being, became human so that He could accompany and be with humanity. Nothing is greater than the Most High humbly dwelling among mankind. Not only was He a man in the midst of mankind, but God Himself was born as an ordinary person like everyone else. Moreover, He also was willing to sacrifice Himself, to die to bring life to all mankind. This is the most noble, sublime, and absolute love. There is no such greater love for mankind. In order for the Savior to come to earth as a human, to be with mankind, to die and redeem man by rising again, God planned a lifetime of difficulties and struggles so His promise would be fulfilled once the Son of God was born.
God the Father invites everyone in the world: to believe in the Son of God who, when the Blessed Virgin Mary became pregnant under the influence of the Holy Spirit, was born as a man. God wants humanity to believe that: God’s love for humanity is true. God’s love will cover and protect all those who run to God the Father and call on the Holy name of the Son of God. Those who do this will all be saved; they will all enjoy the face of God the Father when He calls them out of this world.
God the Father calls all mankind: do not fall into the temptations, the dark traps of Satan. Walk in the light of the Son of God who has come and been with humanity for so many centuries. Run to the light of the Word of God. It is the light of the Word of God that will bring the human soul to enjoy the face of God, the Most High.
God the Father invites everyone: in order to enjoy God’s face and be happy in the Kingdom of Heaven, look up to the example of the supreme love of God for humanity. He was born into the world to become a human to be with mankind until the end of the world. Have absolute trust in the love of the supreme God; it is the love of the Son of God manifested in the person of a real human being.
Therefore, the Word of God today wants to let all mankind know about the genealogy of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who became man. His genealogy also includes sinners and imperfect humans. The important thing is that God’s love will turn evil into good; His love will bring light from darkness. Looking back at the ancestral image of the Son of God who came to earth as a human, there were sinners who disobeyed God, but the love of God has erased the hatred and the darkness. Therefore, God has cleansed sin and removed darkness so that the plan of the Son of God to come down to earth to save all mankind up to this day has been realized and has spread throughout the world.
