READING OF THE DAY
A reading from the Second letter of St. Paul to the Thessalonians
2 Thes1:1-5, 11-12
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy to the Church of the Thessalonians
in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:
grace to you and peace from God our Father
and the Lord Jesus Christ.
We ought to thank God always for you, brothers and sisters,
as is fitting, because your faith flourishes ever more,
and the love of every one of you for one another grows ever greater.
Accordingly, we ourselves boast of you in the churches of God
regarding your endurance and faith in all your persecutions
and the afflictions you endure.
This is evidence of the just judgment of God,
so that you may be considered worthy of the Kingdom of God
for which you are suffering.
We always pray for you,
that our God may make you worthy of his calling
and powerfully bring to fulfillment every good purpose
and every effort of faith,
that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you,
and you in him,
in accord with the grace of our God and Lord Jesus Christ.
GOSPEL OF THE DAY
From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 23:13-22
Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples:
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You lock the Kingdom of heaven before men.
You do not enter yourselves,
nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter.
“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You traverse sea and land to make one convert,
and when that happens you make him a child of Gehenna
twice as much as yourselves.
“Woe to you, blind guides, who say,
‘If one swears by the temple, it means nothing,
but if one swears by the gold of the temple, one is obligated.’
Blind fools, which is greater, the gold,
or the temple that made the gold sacred?
And you say, ‘If one swears by the altar, it means nothing,
but if one swears by the gift on the altar, one is obligated.’
You blind ones, which is greater, the gift,
or the altar that makes the gift sacred?
One who swears by the altar swears by it and all that is upon it;
one who swears by the temple swears by it
and by him who dwells in it;
one who swears by heaven swears by the throne of God
and by him who is seated on it.”
Memorial of The Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary
(Luke 1:26-38)
God’s Word for Us
Dear People of God,
Today the Church celebrates the Blessed Virgin Mary with the title: Holy Queen.
The Word of God today tells us that our beloved Mother Mary Queen is the Mother of God, the Mother of all humanity and the Mother of all virgins. According to God’s Will, she has played an important role in His work of salvation. The only woman in this world that is called by God the Full of Grace, full of the power of the Holy Spirit is our Blessed Virgin Mary. She was placed by God from time immemorial in His work of salvation, and our beloved Mother Mary was completely obedient to God in all places and at all times. She is unlike Eve who disobeyed God in the past, went against His commandments by doing her own will. In addition, Our beloved Mother accepted suffering with God to cooperate with Him to save souls from Satan’s captivity. She loved her children by sacrificing all that belonged to her. She completely did not follow her own will but obeyed the Will of God in all places and at all times, from the smallest things to the greatest things.
Today, our Holy Queen has gone to heaven, but she is still present alive with humanity. She always watches and listen to her children who are fervently pleading and seeking to take refuge under her chastity. She have graced and taken care of us, her children right here on earth in this present moment.
Today, celebrating the feast of our Holy Queen, She invites all of her children to cooperate with God, to sacrifice themselves, to obey God’s Will in all places and at all times. God has given each person a responsibility, a different mission, the important thing is that each person knows how to do His Will.
Let’s look up to the example of our beloved Mother Mary in the past. She obeyed God’s will, fulfilled her God-given duty by conceiving and giving birth to the Son of God. Today, she wants her children to also fulfill their duty given by God. However, in order to fulfill their duties, each person should follow her twelve virtues, which are:
- The three theological virtues of Faith, Hope, and Charity.
- The Four cardinal Virtues of Wisdom, Courage, Justice, and Temperance.
- Three virtues of the evangelical counsel of Poverty, Obedience, Chastity.
- Two virtues follow Jesus’ example: Meekness and Humility.
These twelve virtues must always be associated with each of us as a cloak that protects and preserves from Satan’s attack. These are the things that the Mother of God wants to remind her children.
Run to God, come with our beloved Mother Mary under her virginity through the rosary and we will fulfill the duty that God has given us. Just as in the past, she had a single heart of obedience and fear of God, today everyone should look to the example of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Immaculate Conception, Ever-Virgin, Mother of God who ascended into Heaven both body and soul. Follow the example of our Holy Mother and Queen by living a humble life, obeying God’s Will in all places, at all times, in all circumstances, and always be faithful to the mission God has given you.
Thanks be to God. Amen.
