The First Reading Eph 4: 1-6
A reading from thr Letter of St. Paul to the Ephesians
Eph 4:1-6
Brothers and sisters:
I, a prisoner for the Lord,
urge you to live in a manner worthy of the call you have received,
with all humility and gentleness, with patience,
bearing with one another through love,
striving to preserve the unity of the spirit
through the bond of peace;
one Body and one Spirit,
as you were also called to the one hope of your call;
one Lord, one faith, one baptism;
one God and Father of all,
who is over all and through all and in all.
“You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?” (LK 12:56)
29TH FRIDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FRIDAY OF THE TWENTY-NINTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
Gospel (LK 12:54-59)
Jesus said to the crowds,
“When you see a cloud rising in the west
you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south
you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,
make an effort to settle the matter on the way;
otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge,
and the judge hand you over to the constable,
and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released
until you have paid the last penny.”
The Gospel of the Lord: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
The Word of God for Us
Dear People of God,
In tday’s Word of God, God the Father, invites people to be awake to their sins. Let’s examine ourselves from the past to now. What sins have we committed that have displeased God the Father, displeased our brothers and sisters, and offended ourselves? Let’s consider what consequences our sins have caused, and how we will have to pay for them after God the Father calls us out of this world.
Therefore, we must quickly carry out what God the Father tells us and not live vaguely or superficially. Be closely united with God the Father so that the power of the Holy Spirit will enlighten us to recognize all our sins right here on earth. From there, we can realize how our souls will have to pay for our sins before the justice and fairness of God the Father.
God the Father does not want people to care only about their bodies and not their souls. Because He said that we would have to pay every last penny to enjoy the happiness of the Kingdom of Heaven. All the filthy sins that people have committed must be paid for before the justice and fairness of God the Father. Therefore, when God the Father gives us the opportunity to recognize our sins and pay for them right here on earth, it is a blessing for us. We must pay for our sins right here on earth through sacrifice and renunciation, through living in love and forgiveness, so that later, when God the Father calls us out of this world and return to Him, we will no longer have to pay for His justice and fairness. Today’s Word of God wants to remind people of that, so that everyone can examine themselves for the sins they have committed, and atone for their sins right here on earth. Because while we are still alive, we still have the opportunity to atone for our sins. While we are still alive on earth, we still have our brothers and sisters to accompany us to help us repent and atone for our sins. Otherwise, when we come before the judgment seat, we will know how our sins have displeased God the Father, then our sins will have to be paid for a hundred times more than the atonement on earth.
Thanks be to God. Amen
