Daily Gospel

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8

READING OF THE DAY

First reading from the Book of the prophet Isaiah
Is 2:1-5

This is what Isaiah, son of Amoz,
saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
In days to come,
the mountain of the LORD’s house
shall be established as the highest mountain
and raised above the hills.
All nations shall stream toward it;
many peoples shall come and say:
“Come, let us climb the LORD’s mountain,
to the house of the God of Jacob,
that he may instruct us in his ways,
and we may walk in his paths.”
For from Zion shall go forth instruction,
and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
He shall judge between the nations,
and impose terms on many peoples.
They shall beat their swords into plowshares
and their spears into pruning hooks;
one nation shall not raise the sword against another,
nor shall they train for war again.
O house of Jacob, come,
let us walk in the light of the Lord!

Second reading from the Letter of St. Paul to the Romans
Rom 13:11-14

Brothers and sisters:
You know the time;
it is the hour now for you to awake from sleep.
For our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed;
the night is advanced, the day is at hand.
Let us then throw off the works of darkness
and put on the armor of light;
let us conduct ourselves properly as in the day,
not in orgies and drunkenness,
not in promiscuity and lust,
not in rivalry and jealousy.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ,
and make no provision for the desires of the flesh.

GOSPEL OF THE DAY

From the Gospel according to Matthew
Mt 24:37-44

Jesus said to his disciples:
“As it was in the days of Noah,
so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.
In those days before the flood,
they were eating and drinking,
marrying and giving in marriage,
up to the day that Noah entered the ark.
They did not know until the flood came and carried them all away.
So will it be also at the coming of the Son of Man.
Two men will be out in the field;
one will be taken, and one will be left.
Two women will be grinding at the mill;
one will be taken, and one will be left.
Therefore, stay awake!
For you do not know on which day your Lord will come.
Be sure of this: if the master of the house
had known the hour of night when the thief was coming,
he would have stayed awake
and not let his house be broken into.
So too, you also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

Jesus, I trust in You!
Jesus, I trust in You!

First Sunday of Advent

(Mt 24, 37-44)

The Word of God for Us

Dear people of God,

The Word of God today wants to tell all humanity to be awake and be ready for the day the Lord will come the second time. God always comes unexpectedly to take souls out of this world.

God reminds people not to fall into bad habits, worldly perversion, and sinful paths. Always be awake and prepared for the day when God comes to save your soul from Satan’s captivity. God reminds people not to fall into the lifestyle of the people in the days of Old Noah. God came to warn people to repent and leave all their sins behind, but the people continued to live hedonically and went on a sinful path away from God. God came to save people and free them from the captivity of Satan, but mankind was not awake to listen to the Word of God that was taught through the prophets, through the Apostles, and through the people whom God sent to mankind.

God says in the Old Testament times, people longed for God to come to free them from the suffering brought by the world. Night and day they have waited for the coming of the Lord. However, because they were not awake when the time of the Lord came and dwelt among them, they did not realize it. To this day the Jews are still waiting for the coming of the Lord. God loves mankind, He has come and dwelt among mankind for more than 2000 years. It was He who came to save and deliver the people from the darkness of death, from the captivity of Satan.

God is always in the midst of people, but people do not realize God’s love and are not awake to listen to His Word. Therefore, God’s Word today continues to invite people to always be ready for the day the Lord comes to save souls from death, which is the second coming of the Lord. God reminds people to always be ready to stay awake, to do good deeds, justice, and charity, and to eliminate evil deeds so that when the day of the Lord comes, people will joyfully celebrate the happiness and sing thanksgiving to God.

God says He will come unexpectedly without warning, but His Word always teaches people to walk on the path of righteousness, walk on the path of light that God is calling everyone; be aware to listen and practice the Word of God teaches. Do not lose sight of the Word of God. Do not take the Word of God out of your loving heart. God tells everyone that in God there is only happiness, love, eternal life and never to die again.

Therefore, God’s Word today earnestly calls everyone to be awake and prepare their hearts for the second coming of the Lord. He will come unexpectedly to save mankind from Satan’s captivity. Only in God is the happiest, the most peaceful. Therefore, God invites everyone to walk on the path of God’s light and love. Open your hearts to be ready to welcome the happy day that God will give to humanity. That’s the second day of God’s coming.

Thanks Be to God. Amen.
